  3. Anthony says:

  7. TK says:

Respect to DJ Kool Herc, but I would choose KRS-ONE.

In times of doubt, poverty, and struggle KRS-ONE continues to be a voice for the people. MCs of my generation are fearless in their rhymes, speaking against the universal oppressor: the government – which would have not been possible if it weren’t for the hip hop pioneers of the past. Hip hop has evolved since 1973/4 – it is no longer an art for the street, but an art for the people. We have MCs of different backgrounds speaking out, fighting for their rights, and spreading the message of equality & peace. The music industry is suffering, because we are no longer falling for their gimmicks and one hit wonders. Hip hop has broken barriers. Brothers and sisters of all creeds, all colors, all walks of life are joined together by music. Whether its Eternia of Canada, Nas of NY, or K’Naan of Somalia – they are bound together by the thread of hip hop. KRS-ONE is one of many, to thank for leaving behind a path for future MCs to follow & to change. Sonia Sanchez once said that “hip-hop emerged because nothing had changed since the ’60s”, well its taking rise again. It is no longer a puppet for the industry, but a movement energized by the young people. We are tired of the budget cuts & increases on our educational system. We are tired of these “wars”, we are tired of the censorship on the media outlets, we are tired of the immigration raids, we are tired of our tax dollars going into the prison system when we can’t even afford to eat, we are tired. Hip hop is what we got, what we trust, what we need today – we need KRS-Ones and MCs of the people. Music for the people, by the people.

“HIP AND HOP IS MORE THAN MUSIC, HIP IS THE KNOWLEDGE HOP IS THE MOVEMENT” KRS-ONE.

    KRS-ONE. KRS-ONE. KRS-ONE.

  8. Jessica says:

I think doing Herc would be a great tribute to hip hop and nyc, but personally I’d also like to see your vision of Snoop. I already want em both.

After Empire State of Mind there’s no choice, you realise that?

  14. Awo says:

Jay-Z because he’s THE contemporary hip hop icon but the imagery & the symbolism behind a DJ Kool Herc painting would be AWESOME!!!

  15. caleb morris says:

For your return to NYC? How can there be any question? Jay Z for sure..

  16. RayC says:

Respect to all, but Jay Z is the king!

  17. Katka Kaderka says:

DJ Kool Herc…because you have Jamaica, the Bronx, the drums, the disco, the hip hop, …the possibilities. And he’s about my age, and now he’s spinning the hip hop story.

  18. J-Remy says:

Man, I know they are all gonna be dope and as much as I would like to see the Kool Herc joint, I gotta go with “The Blastmaster” my man KRS-One! Psyched for the show!

  19. Indigo says:

I vote for Herc. Had the pleasure of hanging out with him a while back when he came to Vancouver. Not only is he a legend but he’s also a really kind and gracious person.

  20. Katy Morton says:

    JAY-Z IS:

    larger-than-life, infectious, affecting

    original, actual, fresh

    capital, boss

    on-top, on-point

  24. Marc G. says:

Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, KRS-One or DJ Kool Herc , they all tribute to hip hop and nyc. I will go with Dj Kool Herc….he’s a legend.

  25. Don says:

  30. Jaishi says:

…the html didn’t work…if it had the “H to the Izzo V to the Izza!!!!” would have appeared larger in text. At anyrate, please paint Jay =)

  31. Chris says:

I’m from the West so i bet that Snoop one is gonna be dope.

Jay-Z is doing big thangs & pushing Hip Hop music/culture to new heights.

Blastmaster KRS-One is peerless in emceein.

Yet you couldn’t have any of those without the legendary Kool Herc. It started with the DJ, so it’d be only right to reveal Kool Herc to the masses.

    Peace Bua!

  32. Eric Martinez says:

JAAAAYYYY BEEEEEEEEEEEE…i WOULD MOST DEFF WANT 2 SEE A JAYZ pAINTING…..BEEE KAAY ALL the way .

with much respect 2 every 1 else.

    thanxs KID

  33. Kevin says:

Kool DJ Herc definitely, he deserves more tribute than he gets

  34. MikeB says:

If you left it to the masses, you’d be unveiling a Taylor Swift piece! Please make it Kool Herc (slightly edging out the great KRS1). I know the kids wanna see JayZ, but you know the truth BUA!
    One love.

  35. creptik says:

If all 4 are painted and you just want to know which to unveil, you should definitely go chronological. I would unveil them in this order:

    Herc
    KRS
    Snoop
    Jay-Z

Pay tribute to the forefathers then go out with arguably the biggest name in hiphop (for better or worse).

  36. Mark-E says:

Bua, I think Kool Herc is your man for this NYC tribute. His life, story and accomplishments will work well with your style and artwork. Definitely could see you making this work and portraying him as no other could. San Antonio votes for DJ Kool Herc!

  37. Lenka Maskova says:

I would hesitate between HERC or KRS ONE. You should paint KRS ONE because he is the icon of hip hop. I would call him a pioneer of hip hop music and culture as well.
    I vote for KRS ONE!
    Boogie Down Bronx!

  38. Katka Burianova says:

If you could paint HERC alongside with KRS ONE that would be a perfect combination. Choose the one that spread the message of hip hop worldwide. That is KRS ONE!
    Peace

  39. Lenka Maskova says:

    Boogie Down Bronx
    KRS ONE!!!!

  40. Darius says:

i would go with krs he is hip-hop…both an advocate to the culture and the community…he is my choice

  41. Rebecca Ruiz says:

I know you chose already… Cook Hurk woulda been my ultimate so I’m excited to see that one as well!!!
But anything you create is gonna rock and speak to ppl in a way you make me feel and smell and breathe in the scene.
so ahh if i was to win. It would be such an amazing inexplicable honor to have one of your pieces in my world! Cant wait for the 25th
